A commission from Atelier Ellis to mark the winter solstice inspired this series of paintings on linen. Paintings 1 to 5 are available.
Indigo 1 An inky darkness with a kiss of indigo in the shadows. Acrylic on linen 41 x 51 cms
Indigo 2 It holds the completeness of an object. Acrylic on linen 36 x 46 cms
Indigo 3 Inspired by the smoky grey of a Japanese teahouse and the curtains (or noren) of dyed indigo that hang in the doorway and fade to a delicate translucence. Acrylic on linen 36 x 46 cms
Indigo 5 a deeper hue that has taken on some of the umber surface on which it was painted. Acrylic on linen 36 x 46 cms
Indigo 4 on top of the blue is a dark grey that is tonally similar. The shapes are outlined as if drawn in ink. The simpler the composition on this size of canvas, the more successful the painting. Acrylic on linen 36 x 46 cms
